A Japanese tourist was killed in an air conditioning accident at the Sea of Japan on Monday, authorities said, raising questions about whether the death of a man was linked to a faulty air conditioning system.
The 47-year-old man was killed when a piece of metal fell from his ventilation duct on Monday afternoon, a coastguard spokesman said.
The incident took place on the northern island of Kyushu.
Japan’s Kyushus are popular tourist destinations, and a number of people have died on the islands in recent years.
The latest death was the second in the area since the end of November.
Last week, two people died and two others were injured when a rock fell on the tourist resort of Sasebo.
The death of the tourist was the third in less than a month.
On March 22, a 29-year old man was found dead in a bathtub at a resort in the resort town of Kagoshima, while the death last week of a 25-year older man at a hotel in Nagano was ruled a suicide.
